Prehistoric Party Food
When it comes to food, party goers are usually perfectly happy to eat pizza or hot dogs, which is certainly much easier on the hosts! However, if you have the time and would like to serve up some dishes from the prehistoric age, consider these ideas:- Label the food with creative dinosaur-related names, like Dinosaur Bones (pretzels), Dino Dogs, Tyrannosaurus Burgers, Pterodactyl Chicken Wings, and Dino Eggs (speckled eggs). You can also call tomato sauce Hot Lava!
- Cut sandwiches or slices of cheese using a bone or dinosaur-shaped cookie cutter.
- Divide the food table into two sections. Mark one section "Herbivores" and the other "Carnivores". Place all non-meat items in the Herbivore section and all meat items in the Carnivore section.
- Make red jelly and cut into shapes, and name them Lava Rocks.
- Serve cookies made with a dinosaur cookie cutter or 3D dinosaur cookie cutter and ice it with green icing.
- Serve a platter with Tyrannosaurus Rex teeth- Use banana halves, you can even dip some of them in chocolate sauce for the sweet tooth dinosaurs
- Hide pieces of bone-shaped sweets in a cup of chocolate pudding, and sprinkle crushed chocolate cookies (oreo's) on top as the "dirt." Tell the guests it is a dinosaur bone stuck in the mud, and let them eat their way to the bones.
- Serve drinks with our dark green paper straws
Dinosaur Volcano Cake Idea
- Lay a ring shaped cake on top of a 22.5cm square cake.
- Completely cover the cake with chocolate icing.
- Make orange icing by adding 5 drops of red and 3 drops of yellow food colouring to white icing.
- Then slowly pour the orange icing around the top to resemble lava flowing out of a volcano.
- Write a happy birthday message with white icing on the front of the volcano.
- Arrange plastic dinosaurs and trees around the bottom of the cake.

Dinosaur Party Decorating Ideas
- Make inexpensive caveman costumes for your guests to wear (no sewing required!). Just cut a hole in the centre of a piece of animal print fabric to fit over a child's head. Secure the costume in place with a rope belt tied around the child's waist.
- Draw large dinosaur footprints in chalk on the pavement leading to your door.
- If you have a sand box, fill it with sand and lay out "dinosaur bones" on top and buried beneath. Later this can be an activity as your guests dig up the bones!
- Use your child's toy dinosaurs to decorate the party area. Group them together on tables, and place some dinosaurs around the cake stand.
- Make a volcano centrepiece, and place dry ice in the centre to create the effect of steam rising.
- Decorate with big rocks and ferns. You can use wide green crepe/tissue paper to cut out fern leaves if you don't have access to live ones.
- Stuff brown paper bags with newspaper to create "rocks" and place three or four together in the corners of the party area.
- Hang dinosaur bunting in the main party area

Dinosaur Cave
What You'll Need:
- A large box (such as an appliance box)
- A music player
- Cut doorways on either side of a large appliance box.
- Tape the flaps onto the roof.
- Paint the box grey to look like a cave.
- Draw ferns and trees on the sides with a permanent marker.
- In addition, you can hang a sign on the outside which says, "T-Rex Cave."
- Set up the music player nearby.
At the Party:
- Position someone at a music player to stop the music periodically.
- Line the children up one behind the other in front of the cave.
- When the music starts, the first child crawls or walks through the opening and out the other side.
- The next child in line follows.
- This continues until the music is stopped.
- The child who is in the cave when the music stops is "extinct."
For Older Children: The child who is extinct is out of the game until the next round. Play would continue until all the children except one are out.
For Younger Children: You may wish to give the child who is caught a sticker. Play would continue until all but one child is caught. If you would like, you can award a slightly larger prize to the last player, such as a piece of candy.
- Let the kids be cave men and create their own drawings on a large cardboard box! Cut the box open so more sides are available, and set out crayons and washable markers. This could be a good way to start the party, while you wait for all the guests to arrive. Be sure to take photos of the guests in front of their creation!
- Have a dinosaur treasure hunt - Hide dinosaurs in your garden or in the party area. Make sure there is enough dinosaurs for each child, so they can take it home as a favour at the end of the party
- Pin the tail (or horn) on the dinosaur - If you want to avoid the whole covering the eyes spinning around version for very young children simply have a the dinosaur poster, a variety of add ons such as spots, spikes, plates, horns, eyes, tails and some glue dots. It will make a fun keepsake for your child to remember their dinosaur party.
